Alright basically this is my 1st ever English Journal Post .
And it will be about "speedcubing", my very interesting hobby. Firstly, a simple introduction on it.
Speedcubing is the activity of solving a Rubik's Cube or related puzzle as quickly as possible.
Apart from the regular 3x3x3 cubes, higher order cubes have patented and created such as the 2x2 ,through 7x7 ( As shown in the picture above). The current world record for a single solve of the 3×3×3 is now 7.08 seconds, set by Erik Akkersdijk (Video Below).
Here are the promised videos
Enough of the boring definitions. So,how did I start on speedcubing? During the March holidays, I was really suffering from intensive boredom when my sister brought home an intriguing looking cube. "Hmmm".... I thought to myself why not learn how to solve one. So began my epic journey of solving the puzzle that frustrated more than thousands of people worldwide. With the help from an Internet tutorial, I finally grasp the concept of the complicated puzzle. Oh what a tremendous feeling I had when I got all sides to have six pretty solid colors. So gradually, my timings progressed .I initially started solving it in 2 Minutes. After constant practice and hard work for a year, it has dropped down to an astounding 20 seconds. Not a bad achievement in my books.
As with all other hobbies, this particular one has its perks and obviously cons. In my opinion, speedcubing stregthens a person's intellectual state of mind. Not forgetting the facet that it is engaging, and full of mind-boggling fun. Now the flip-side , I got to agree that this hobby is a little "tad" over addictive. I vividly recalled that for a period of time last year, speedcubing got in the way of my studies (which had been neglected a lot) and as a result, my SA1 grades was incredibally ATROCIOUS !!! (spelt in capital letters and with three exclaimation marks)
However, to cope with the problem, I had to take action. My main goal was to instill discipline in myself. I prioritised myself , putting school work before hobbies . The initiative indeed proved to be fruitful and in the End of Year Examinations, I had shown reasonable improvement . :) Rejoice for myself
So that wraps up my first post. In a nutshell, I really encourage people to pick up the sport of speedcubing ( I will be elated to give you tips :) . but the individual must not forget that in the end studies always comes first . Ok "Chow" !
peacexz yaw!
